REVIEW NOTES
Well this is a first for me, I typically review craft beers and whiskeys but never actually sit down and put the pen to the paper about a cigar. My wife just called and said she was working late, so I'm taking this opportunity to go light up and enjoy a great smoke. As I reached in my humidor I decided to pluck out a Chateau Real Toro, which seems perfect for this cooler evening. Well let's get this show on the road!
Feel- right from the humidor this baby is firm but not hard with a minimal squishy resistance. Very even feeling throughout which is a great start!
Smell- loads of bakers chocolate, hay and grassy aromas like beer hops with a touch of manure and sweetness. Earthy, and straight to the point.
Cutter- Xikar Xi
Lighter - Vector triple flame, brick and mortar value lighter
First Half- burning very consistent and leaving light grey 1/2 ash pellets in my ashtray every so often. Very complex yet smooth with molasses undertones, dark chocolate, and as doc would say "chicken coop like" on the retro hale and a firm but not overpowering presence of white pepper.
Second Half-Still burning great! A little unattended ash landed on my lap but no harm. As I get closer and closer to the end more and more pepper is coming through and the heat is kicking in. A much stronger horsey / manure flavor is Also intensifying. But overall a really complex toothy cigar which I would enjoy any day of the week.
This makes me want a cup of bold coffee, or a dollop of a good bourbon!
