Pre-Light Observations The Chaveta Corte Fino sports a brown shade wrapper. The pre-light aroma and draw are a sweet hay flavor. The cigar is very well packed and a bit tight on the draw. Tasting Notes This cigar made a tremendous first impression. In fact, the first ten minutes of the Chaveta produced some of the best flavors I've tasted all year, and there were lots of them. Sweet spicy vanilla, black cherry, floral notes, and roasted nuts. The cigar starts off firing on all cylinders! This cigar reminded me of the importance of retro haling as very different flavors were emphasized when passing the smoke back through the nose. With or without retro haling, the cigar produced great flavors. Unfortunately, this wonderful flavor bomb was short lived and by the half way point the cigar was producing a fairly ordinary tobacco flavor. Smoke volume was very good and the cigar produced a crisp white ash. Conclusions Overall, the Chaveta Corte Fino was an enjoyable smoke with the first quarter nearly being worth the price of admission alone. The second half seemed a bit bland to me after the earlier performance so I think that there is room for improvement on this blend. I still recommend giving this cigar a try.
