REVIEW NOTES

The Juan Lopez No. 2, one of my favorite cigars. As I am nearing the final few sticks from my 2007 box I find myself taking a bit more time to draw out the flavors and admire the complexity of this fantastic vitola. First inspection reveals a uniform Colorado brown wrapper with a nicely applied triple cap. Feel is smooth, firm with just enough give. Aroma from the foot is cedar and toasted tobacco, cold draw presents the same. Burn line is flawless and flavors begin with cedar, graham cracker and fresh bread. The retro hale is especially pleasant with an almost imperceptible spice. Mouth feel is not as "chewy" as the younger JLS No. 2, but light and flavorful. Smoke is ample, ash is light gray and solid. Into the second third the burn line wavers a bit. Likely could have been fine without a touch up from the Xikar, but I prefer them burning straight. The initial cedar flavor works its way into the background giving way to bread, graham cracker and toasted nuts on the retro hale. Still a solid medium body cigar. The ash held for a solid inch before I had to tap it lest I risk it falling on its own onto the wife's new deck chairs...would not turn out well for this guy. Final third was a delicious extension of the second, bread, roasted nuts with an added sweet tobacco flavor. Smoke really picked up a notch and coats the mouth much more substantially. The ash continues to hold on, but is a bit more flakey in appearance. Burn line remains straight after the initial touch up. Again the JLS No. 2 reminds me why this is still one of my favorite go to cigars. Great construction, nice burn, medium body and fantastic flavors that I find always go well with a cup of coffee in the morning. I'll be sorry to finish these 07's, but looking forward to getting into my boxes from 08 which I think are a notch above. Cheers
