The Look: The white and gold bands that adorn the Rocky Patel are classy yet familiar. The primary band features the Rocky Patel logo while the secondary band denotes it is the Vintage 1993 Connecticut. The wrapper is golden in color with an almost yellowish hue. There are some significant veins present that take away slightly from the beauty but shouldn’t cause any burn issues. The cigar has a hefty weight to it and a well packed foot. The Notes: The foot of the cigar is buttery and rich with a natural tobacco sweetness to it. Once the cap is clipped there is a fig like sweetness with a hint of molasses as well. As we smoke the first third of the cigar there is a nice toast note with melted butter. If there was a cigar that reminded me of breakfast this fits the mold. In fact it reminds of Tostado Cubano (Cuban Toast) in Miami and consider there is snow mounds here of 12 feet, it’s a nice warm memory. The second third of the Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Connecticut remains with its core notes of toast and butter but the cigar gets even smoother, and creamier. The last third of the cigar picks up some nutty notes and the buttery richness remains on the aroma of this incredibly smooth cigar that introduces a hint of spice at the very end. The Burn: One can tell looking at the cigar if the aging isn’t close to what Rocky Patel advertises on this cigar, but the fact that the burn line is razor-thin, there is some definitive aging going on here. The burn line is even for the post part and it burns to perfect with a light to medium gray ash. The draw is impeccable as well. The Finish: The Rocky Patel Vintage 1999 Connecticut is a good cigar for the novice or someone who wants to smoke something mild. Warm and toasty with notes of melted butter this cigar is a good breakfast cigar for the experienced smoker as well if you are looking to ease your way into a stronger cigar as the day progresses.
